Having the same problem as Krennon. four and a half year old frige.

will only run down to temp (-!9 set on ours ) then compressor stops and does not restart to maintain temp. Will also run down to any other temp in range but compressor stops and does not restart.

Switching power off and on again 20 seconds later starts the compressor which again runs until temp set is achieved.

Super freeze button does not activate the compressor at any temp.

Changed freezer temp sensor and control board no help

Put old board back in. Old temp sensor is about 5.5k at room temp and about 28k at -17C which is within spec.

Compressor stops at correct temp (have multimeter with thermocouple)

See mention of defrost sensor. Could this be the problem.

Also wondered if there is an overtemp cutout on the compressor itself?
If there is and it has failed it might produce these symptoms.

That thought occured to me when I remembered that we had one or two power glitches, brown outs and short term complete failure of supply from the electricity company over the last 6 months.

Any comments would be appreciated do not want to throw away £450 of kit after 4.5 years.

    Hi
the problem you have is either the defrost heater failure or the defrost sensor failure.

the sensor must reach +17oc before it will switch the appliance out of defrost.

if either the defrost heater , overload , sensor have failed then by switching the appliance off then back on resets the control card and it will runn till the next defrost is due in approx 8hrs.

    Many thanks for that.

I lacked the detail of the required temp for the defrost sensor.

It all makes sense now. No pun intended

I am not a refridgeration engineer but have a background with the services in electronics and also a radio amateur.

Much more fun trying to fix it myself but irritating not having the sort of details you have supplied.

The guy I called in was a hard worker and was glad to take the new pcb out and reinstall the old one. Just too many variables in different makes.

With any luck I will get more life out of the big white box after all.

Will order any items via ukwhitegoods at the weekend .

I found ice at the bottom of the freezer during all of this but the cabinet temp had been no higher than -6c hopefully that means the heater is okayand I just need the sensor.

It is fortunate that I am at home all the time I was able to keep the fridge section cold enough by switching on and off every 8 hours or so!!!.

    Very many thanks.
