ParticipantHi,
Just got a new Hotpoint WD420 delivered yesterday. Plumbed it in last night and proceded to run a load in it.
I set it to programme E and set it to do the dry afterwards.
It started going and I retuned about an hour later. The washer appeared to have emptied but not started drying.
I then noticed that the power light and the top two option lights were flashing. (1 & 2)
Thinking nothing of it I pressed the cancel and the door eventually unlocked. I then pulled all the clothes out apart from a shirt and trousers I urgently need last night.
Tried to set it to dry but the door lock and drying light (1st & 5th across from the left) and power were flashing. Now I cannot get it to do anything. Phoned tech support this morning and they said that indicated a drain problem and to check the drainage pipes. Did that and cannot see an obvious problem.
then powered back up and got lights 1 & 2 on the option buttons and the power is flashing.
Phoned support back and they talked me through holding cancel, open the door, power off, power on, hold cancel (I presume a reset procedure) then to select a program and press start for 3 secs. Did this and the door lock light started flashing, a few seconds later the door locked and then the unit seem to try and take on water but was only opening the valve a split second and then closing and then did this every second or so for about 10 seconds. It then returns to the error code 1&2. Support has booked an engineer for this Saturday.Just wondered if anyone knows what 1&2 + Power light means (The power light seems to flash faster than 1&2)

Neons 1 + 2 flashing are ‘supposed’ to indicate a communications error.
In reality it means that the unreliable INDESIT electronics in your Hotpoint machine are possibly at fault. It may just be a loose connection caused during delivery/installation but you only need to used the search facility and enter Hotpoint/Indesit/Ariston and you will have pages of bedtime reading that may give you a sleepless night. 😥

Thanks for the reply – I feared it would be something like that. Will have to wait til the engineer to come then.
Typical, just seen all the posts on the boards which kind of surprised me because Hotpoint is quite a reputable name. I was not impressed that theres no mention of flashing lights mean a problem in the manual. Spent about 15 minutes waiting, thinking the drying was about to kick in. If the manual said “If the power light flashes then theres a problem” it would have made it less frustrating!
Cheers for your help and putting my mind at rest.

Was……… Shame. This is what happens when Italian bucket shop operations quietly buy up great British names. There’s another one that owns Hoover, too.

Hi,
Thanks for all your comments – just another thing this morning the disco lights on the front of the unit are now in a different pattern! What error is the Power light and the final spin (4th across from the left) flashing now?

Neon 4 flashing indicates door lock fault, it may not be closed properly. Although the error messages should be given by the neons down the side of the control panel.
It may just be trying to wind you up. 😥

Great, thats for the info. What do you mean TRYING to wind me up, think its already acheived that!
So I take it, flashing lights across the top ie door lock, wash, rinse & spin, final Spin and dry are user correctable errors like door not closed, no water, blocked drain
and
flashing option lights are faults more serious which basically require an engineer to fix without invalidating the waranty?

oh well, just need to wait in all day tomorrow for the engineer – working til 4am so that will be really great if he turns up at 8am!
It might have been easier for me to buy a scrubbing board, bucket & mangle!
Cheers for all your advice.
