Engineer looses finger

Heard a rumour today that an appliance engineer lost a finger when working on a Whirlpool top loader (The euro type with flaps in the top of the drum). In the Chelmsford/Great Dunmow area. Anyone on here? If so, how is he doing? The story goes that the customer in who’s house it happened fled at the sight of it leaving him to pack his severed finger in ice from the customers American style fridge freezer ice maker (must have been working for once!) and bravely drove to Harlow hospital on his own.
