Hi all from a newbie who wishes he’d found this site years back.

I have an LG WM1480FHD washer which has recently started getting louder on spin and does make a grinding sound on turning the drum by hand. It sounds and feels like the bearings are shot and it has had a hard life (averaging one 7Kg load a day for the last four years).

Cash being tight, I’d like to change the bearing(s) and seals, shaft condition permitting but having read a number of posts here on nightmare bearing changes on different machines, I’d like a heads up on whether it’s feasible and/or if a whole drum assy’ would be a better bet. I do consider myself technically competent and sufficiently well equipped to tackle it, but I’m also intelligent enough to know when I’m wasting my time and money.

    All assistance gratefully accepted!

    Hi,
I am also now in this predicament, where the bearing on my LG Intellowasher WM1480FHD is beginning to make a grinding sound on spin, and I would appreciate any help you could offer, i.e. did you carry out the repair in the end, and are there any pit falls in changing the bearing?
I am technically minded, but a breakdown on how to do the job would also help.
    Thanks.
    Bruce.

ease depends on whether its belt driven or direct drive?

not sure u can buy just the bearing kit on its own, we usually fit the rear half of the tub

if u read certain posts, bearing kits are around £10 😯 , available just about everywhere 😯 and takeabout 30 minutes…. 😯

in reality, its not easy, the tub has to come out from the front, and be split, and suitable bearings and seal fitted

cant explain it blow by blow, but id be sure u got plenty of room, patience, and safety gloves (but im sure it would be worth it financially as lg machines arent cheap)

oh, and make sure its unplugged

Check that you haven’t got a 5 yr warranty on the machine. Mine came with a free warranty and I am so glad. It’s had new bearings and a new soap drawer, both after it turned 1 yr old. When the man did my bearings he renewed the inner drum and the rear half of the outer drum. It was easier for him and he got no prizes from LG for saving them money and got the same payment for the job however long it took.
