Whirlpool Corporation has added additional brands of refrigerator to its recall due to an electrical failure in the relay, the component that turns on the refrigerator’s compressor.
This can cause overheating and pose a serious fire hazard, we’ve seen footage of one actually on fire!
If you own a Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag or Crosley side by side or top freezer refrigerator bought between January 2001 thru January 2004, please call Maytag toll-free at (866) 533-9817 to see if your refrigerator has been recalled.
Repairs will be done at no cost to you for those refrigerators on the recall list
Maytag has received 41 reports of refrigerator relay ignition, including 16 reports of property damage ranging from smoke damage to extensive kitchen damage.
It is thought that about 1.6 million units are affected by this recall.
