ParticipantI know you want the model number, but it’s mid cycle at the moment (I opened the door and said model number isn’t on the door or frame, so I am presuming it is on the back, and I don’t think it’s wise to move it whilst it’s working… I will provide this when the cycle is finished.
I will give you the scenario from day one of when it started being naughty.
1. If cheap tablets are used, everything had a horrible smell and taste to it.
2. It started to not rinse properly.
3. It spent 4 hours making a grinding noise, as if the pump is buggered.
4. It has stopped washing anything, items that are upside down on the bottom drawer (like a large 2 litre jug) were not even getting wet inside, never mind being cleaned.
5. The spray arms seem to be trickling rather than spraying.
What we have done so far:
1. Checked drainage filters for blockages etc, removed them and cleaned them thoroughly put them back.
2. Removed spray arms, cleaned them ensured there was no blockages.
3. Removed the water supply hose and checked whether the water is coming through that without hinderance – the pressure is fantastic.
I called my Dad, as he is a TV/Video Engineer etc, but has dabbled in other appliances for his job…
He said when their dishwasher stopped working, he looked inside and there is a small dome inside, he carefully removed the cover to that and there was two floaty things, he removed them one by one (as they are different) and cleaned them and after that the dishwasher worked fine again.
We have this dome inside our machine, but on trying to “remove it” it just pulls up to reveal what can only be explained as feeling like a jelly fish (some rubbery contraption) but we could not completely remove the dome to find these floaty things (maybe it’s because it’s a diff make/model, I don’t know)
The inside of the dishwasher is sparkly clean and looks brand new, yet the crocks and stuff are coming out as dirty as they went in 🙁
Any ideas anyone?
NB: The dishwasher belongs to our Landlord, but she has said it was a luxury not a necessity so we are responsible for keeping it in good repair and running. She has offered to send someone out that charges a £20 call out fee before anything else, but we can’t really afford this.
On checking the water supply hose and finding that the water pressure is as good as straight from the tap, we are presuming that there must be a blockage inside the dishwasher itself, or that maybe there is a problem with the pump?
We can’t actually hear the water swishing around like we used to, and it’s not sat for four hours grinding like it did that once, it’s done the cycle in the right amount of time.
We are miffed as to what could possibly be wrong with it 🙁

Hi
First thing to do is to drain it down. Then with appliance unplugged :plug: remove the front plastic lower plinth and the strip behind. Then you will see a ribbed pipe going from left metring unit to sump. Pull that off completely as it is only “o” ringged in, and make sure it is thoroughly clean. Re assemble and test.Model number WILL be etched around stainless door inner, none on the back 🙂

ParticipantHaving removed the front plastic strip we are presented with grey plastic that arches up under the door and appears to have no screws or attachments. It also goes under the machine and forms the feet.
Apart from taking the complete metal dishwasher casing off. we cannot see any way to get inside?
We’ve looked again and cannot find any model number inside the door!

ParticipantThink we’ve found the model number!
It was so lightly etched that looking at it straight on made it invisible, it was only by chance that as we were looking around the door with it half open that the sun caught it and showed it up!
It says:
E-Nr. SGS43C12GB/15
Type: SL15KJB

It could be a water starvation problem that I know this model has suffered from. They have modified the “floaty things” you mentioned and in some cases changed the control module as well in order to cure an ‘underfilling problem’.
I wonder how much water is in the tub once it has stopped filling?
The “4 hours grinding noise” is also not a good sign 🙁 It could so easily be a fault with the main circulating pump especially if you observe plenty of water in the tub? 😕

After lots of messing about and cleaning and checking various parts, we seem to have solved the problem, we are not sure whether it was one of the things or a combination of the things that we did, but we have just had a successful dishwasher cycle, and are on our second load (backlog of only two days and we have to do 4 loads!) With Finish tablets, instead of our usual cheap ones.
