I have a recurring problem with my Dryer blowing cold air only.
For the third time in as many years I need to replace the stats. ( the two at the element )
The problem is that the lugs on the stats and connection on the corresponding wires look like they are overheating or corroding and in this instance one of the terminals has gotten so bad it has come away from the stat.
Now I think the problem is caused by moisture getting into the area as you can see fluff and gunge on the back cover that is removed to gain access to the back of the unit and spray marks with the same fluff gunge debris at points where the hot damp air has escaped from round the element sealing area

I was going to improve the sealing by putting silicone RTV rated to 260 C round where all the tiny seal gaps are showing.
Does anyone know how hot this area gets? ❓

More importantly the last two times I replaced the stats I never even noticed or checked to see if they were different part numbers on each of the two stats. I am at work at the moment and found a post somewhere saying that the two ARE different and that the top one should be A260 87N1856 and the other below the element is A210 07N1520.
    Is this true?
It is the lower one I always have problems with, ( I checked the dryer last night and have the damaged lower one with me at the moment and it’s a A210) I tried a bit of digging on the net and found the manufacturer of the switches ( NGT in Japan http://www.ngt.co.jp/sozo-company-info.html ) I cant get any info but I would like to buy one from somewhere.
Does anyone have an electrical diagram of the heating circuit I could look at so I can understand why it is always this lower switch that goes.

Wife says she always lets the dryer go to the cool down before opening the door but she is not the most patient of people so I don’t believe her, so I know this won’t help, but why is it always the lower switch. :rolls:

Sorry for the ramble but any info greatly appreciated.

A replacement set of t/stats is here.

The ‘GREEN SPOT’ one goes at the bottom by the way. πŸ˜‰

Not allowing the dryer to complete the last 10 mins ‘cool-down’ period is THE most usual reason for stat failure and heater terminal burning. Always replace burnt t/stat heater terminal connectors if they are burnt.

There is no need to seal the back panel with silicone or any such sealants. But do check very carefully that the condenser matrix is clear of fluff. Also check the fan inlet (inside the condenser box entrance) is clear of fluff too? πŸ™‚

When the dryer operates you should observe a healthy intake flow of air at that point, indicating the area is clear and the inlet fan is operating as it should. It is rather more difficult to check the hot air fan but one can usually assume that if the first fan is flowing freely then the other will be too as they are attached at each end of the same motor! πŸ˜‰

If the heating element terminals are not directly in line with each other then the element may be on its way out also? πŸ™

Thanks for the fast reply Martin, I think this is a VERY good site. πŸ™‚
I will place an order today for stats.

I am still concerned about the signs of hot moist air escaping from around the element / hotbox area ( and the visible damage to connectors ) I would guess this shouldn’t happen and if anyone knows the operating temp could they let me know, so i can seal it up without having the extra expense of seal kits. Failing that once I get the new switches and the dryer up and running, I’ll measure the temp and post on here for other peoples info.

I read and understand that you can’t distribute manuals schematics etc, but could I ask a question to help me understand the control side of things. ❓
There are 3 stats, is the single one at the front the safety over temp?
The top one at the element, the control for the lower temp “gentle” setting. ( ie the stat opens at a low temp e.g. 150 deg) and then therefore the bottom, green stat used to control at the full higher temp.

Thanks again for a first class site. πŸ˜‰

    Chris
