ParticipantJust been to an Indesit WIE series, blown fuse ,customer fits new fuse & m/c carries on but F02 flashes, but it empties when drain selected. Me goes along armed with the error codes, ”oh motor/tacho etc fault” drops motor, burn marks near brush holder, armature a bit scorched but i’ve seen worse, clean up motor, test with meter ,all good readings, refit & nowt just a burning smell & a buzzing noise[motor trying to turn]. I don’t need any advice on this fault, my point is this, m/c is 18 months old, 2 people in the household & it’s used twice a week, how come this is progress, some customers look at me & think i’ve made the bl**dy things! Why should customers [who pay good money] put up with this cr*p, I know I’d be knarked if it was my m/c 😡 😡 . On the other hand went to a H/point 18580 t’other day that had a bust door button ext ,not bad after all these years plus the odd pair of carbons 🙂 🙂 .Rant over.

That`s just the quality you get for £250 or less. Customers want it both ways when they buy these cheap machines and I`ve no qualms in telling them they`ve made a mistake by purchasing on price alone.
Don`t think anyone here thinks it`s progress and hopefully we can all educate our customers away from buying these cheap machines. It truly is a false economy spending £250 every 2 or 3 years when an initial outlay of £400-£500 will hopefully give them good service for a 10 year plus period 😀 .

What happened to quality?
It got sold out. Took the golden handshake and retired to a quiet corner.
I call it “cost-engineering”. Basically the engineering is made to a cost, manufacturing is to a cost. Not a specification, a cost.
That’s why ISE isnt’ as cheap, we went at it the other way around, we wanted the quality, then balanced the cost.
Simple fact of it is that volume sales, through the multiples, has had a greater value placed upon it that sullying a brand’s name and reputation. When you’re in that market you’re forced to meet in-store price points, to do that you have to cost-engineer. I know that Indesit isn’t that well regarded even within the retail sector, but just look at what happened to Servis, or even Philco. Nobody wants to touch them now, retail or service.
The problem is that people remember bad brands just as well as they remember good ones and you’ll get away with a mistake or two. But not to the degree that these two were destroyed.
Don’t believe me?
What do we think when Candy is mentioned?
Ariston?
Haier?
Snowcap? (remember them?)
Norfrost?
Conversley, what do we think of Miele, Bosch etc.?
Before we even see the machine we’ve formed an opinion on what we should expect just on the name that’s on the soap drawer or whatever.
What Indesit are doing with the core brand and Hotpoint I really don’t know but, IMO, it’s misguided at best. But it’s not me that’s sat in the big chair there so my opinion doesn’t count for much.
What I do know is that people will only be burned once and, all too often, when we tell them it’s a pile of cr4p that they bought, they do actually pay attention. So, IMO, Bryan’s right. I have no issue telling people that they’ve been muppets either… nicely of course. 😉

I know it’s all about money, trouble is punter sees product A at blah blah price & product B at blimey charlie price & goes for the cheapest, human nature & the manufactures know it!
Here is somat scary Merloni now have a big say in Benelli motorcycles, they look stunning, they perform quite well against the top Jap stuff, but although the mechanicals may be sound I only hope the electricals have been farmed out elsewhere,…….. Japan hopefully!

In my experience, customers come and buy an Indesit at £200, and come back 2yrs later and buy another Indesit, and so on.
Why? Why do they do this?

The reason they buy another Indesh*t is because they’re numpties, as I said it’s all about money, but don’t you think todays modern m/cs don’t last like the old ‘uns. When I first started in this game the average life of a basic auto was 7-8 years [that was using manufactures data], now yer lucky to get 2-3 years. Personally I blame the electronics, the enviroment they live in , ie damp, vibrations, heat/cold, it’s like you wouldn’t run a PC in yer bathroom ,would you? & I know my bathroom don’t vibrate 😉
They’re just cr*p to be honest 🙁

Because a new machine is only £200 and £200 is a small sum of money to many these days. Small enough to speculate upon, small enough an investment on something that not only does the job that it was intended for, but may even last a while?
£200 is just a good night out for some these days but for others can buy a new washing machine that may just get through 5 tonnes* of laundry in its ‘oh so short’ lifetime? That’s a hell of a lot of washing by the way! 😯
(Here’s the simple maths bit – calculators at the ready if you please 😉 )
*5,000 kilo’s @ 6kg per wash = 833 washloads (approx 2.3 yrs useage at 1 load per day) 😯November 5, 2006 at 8:13 pm #194128effzedarr

Who in their right minds puts 6kg in each load…no one. they put around 5lb so that one goes up in smoke.
But that’s still no excuse for the machine to last less than three years. My Hitachi (old Servis quartz to the uninitiated) is 17 years old and never broke down.
