ParticipantHi.
My F&P GW503 has started beeping and sits with three LED’s flashing
Hot, cold and 2nd of 8 progress LED’s.The user manual suggests that this is due to hot and cold not being available but both are turned on OK.
Regular wash with low water level cold temp.
Pressing the start button gets it filling again in lots of short bursts but it eventually stops again with same error.
Hopefully this means something to the experts here.
Tried the diagnostic and no error code LED’s light up nor do I get the two beeps.
Cheers, Rick (NZ)

Awkward one, Rick.
Failing inlet valve, probably the cold one (can be the hot as well), is the most likely culprit. Very low water pressure can cause it. Syphoning (drain hose jammed too far down the outlet pipe) will do it as well. However, dodgy wiring and motor board failure can produce the same symptoms. Not to mention the lid and Out-of-Balance switches……
So, bit of checking to be done. Stay safe, power off for anything other than observation.

Thanks Penguin45.
Getting water into the machine is the main issue as you noted.
If I fill by bucket things go a bit better and set to warm wash (ie hot and cold running) the error occurs less times. The error returns at progress LED 7 just before the last spin.
Have very good water pressure normally so will check what flow coming from the machine hoses in case filters have become blocked. I am an electrician by trade …. but not a washing machine serviceman except for my own machines 🙂
Will let you know if things improve.
Cheers, Rick.

Update.
Water flows into machine and has plenty of cold water pressure.
Can the cold water valve go slow … ie not fully open and be cause of restricted water entry into the machine?
What voltage is the cold water valve so I can remove and bench test its function?
Is there any chance of a blockage after the valve causing the same slow fill?
I expect the machine has a timer for each fill level and the musical tones are just an indication that filling took too long.
Answers to the above questions should clarify my next move.
Thanks,
Rick.

The cold water valve operates @ 12v, BUT, it is a proportional inlet valve. That is to say, different degrees of flow can be achieved by varying the voltage to the solenoid coil. They do seem to be a regular source of problems, going back through the forum. The hot water valve is also 12v, but is non-proprtional, ie it’s either open or closed.
The cold one fitted to your machine is p/no 425320, the hot is 425324.
Have you actually tried runnning the diagnostics (top of the forum) after it faults?
HTH,

Thanks again Penguin45.
When I ran through the diagnostics there was no “two beeps” and none of the 8 LED’s illuminated.
Power and down temp together. Top panel LED’s all light up then go out. press spin buttons till hold and slow led’s on.
At this point none of the 8 led’s are on.
Please correct me if this is not the correct procedure for my gw503.
Cheers, Rick.

Hi Penguin45.
All fixed 🙂
Replaced the cold water proportional valve NZ$10 and the inflow rate dramatically increased. The machine is now running without error.
I now have a 500B model washer that has a different fault.Fills fine, washes fine, pumps out good and starts to spin then shuts down and beeps 🙁
Can you comment on how the machine detects balance?
After restarting the machine is refills washes empties and spins again in a never ending cycle as though it is trying each time to correct an out of balance problem.
Thanks for your continued great advice.
Rick.

Tub bias spring broken/disconnected? Allows tub to clip out of balance switch lever on a nuisance basis. That’s the easy one, anyway 😀 .

Thanks Penguin45.
Where would I find the bias spring to check it?
Cheers,
Rick.
