Model 3lbr6132eqo american type t/l.
Making horrendous noise on spin, coupling damaged and loads of play on shafts. Thought that was it, fitted new coupling but the noise persists. On spin after it picks up it sounds like the wash side of the gearbox is trying to engage. Spinning it with the lid open and the switch pressed down, as soon as it makes the noise I release the switch and it nigh on stops dead and wrenches the drum over. I’m presuming its the gearbox but have no idea if thats all that is needed on this type of job.
Any help on this one appreciated.Tony C

Hi Tony,
Have you checked that the 3 springs around the bottom of the tub are OK also check the spring going from the bottom/back of the tub to the chassis at bottom of machine.

Sorry John, Its help on changing the gearbox I need, as I’m pretty sure thats what it is. The machine is trying to do wash action on spin like the old HPT T/L used to do and making a horrendous noise when it does. I just need to know if it’s a complete PUK job like on HPT or individual parts.

I have never heard of a gearbox doing this, the motor turns one way for wash and the other for spin. 😕
To change the gearbox would take 15-20 mins. take the agitator and motor off, three bolts round the base of the gearbox and it drops out. with clutch attached to gearbox. Change clutch over to new gearbox and rebuild.You will be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to do. The gearbox comes complete and IIRC costs around £70 retail.
