ParticipantHello. This refers to the Zanussi 1265 w/d machine. We were getting the E20 error message and indeed there appeared to be an outflow problem of some kind. I dismantled the inlet to the pump and I found a 20pence piece. On reassembly the problem persisted. Flow from the drum to the outlet pipe seems unimpeded and is blowable-through. The fluff filter at the front is clear (there are calcified plaques through the pipes and we thus sometimes run a very hot wash with an empty drum to help clear things through).
I replaced the pump about 6 months ago, because the spindle appeared to be bent. This fixed the problem back then.
Recently the dryer part was used on the machine. It worked but it did smell a bit hot. The use of the drier has been very rare.
In use the pump has appeared to run but very quietly. The pump runs hot (normal?) The output from the pump is negligable or null.
On another attemempt to run the machine the display has gone dead.
Please, is there a resettable breaker or fuse somewhere? (I can’t see anything on the board).
I was planning to run the pump out of the machine to see if its running with any gusto.
If you have any thoughts I would be most grateful. The machine is 5 years old and works very well otherwise. I am reluctant to replace the board until I know why it died. Many thanks, Nick.November 11, 2006 at 8:37 pm #195061pto

No, it didn’t go on its side. I just tipped it back up to 45 degrees to get underneath.

Nick,
Your machine will need closer inspection in all areas to assertain whatever faults it may have. Clearly the whole drain system including the internal hoses needs a good checkover and the connections to and from the electronic circuit board.
I strongly advise help be sought as these washer-dryers are complex and difficult to access without expert knowledge. Therefore click on the link below for a local engineer to take a look at it for you! 😉

Thank you Martin, We did speak to a couple of engineers who were a bit pessimistic about it. We got the impression that that it may well not be an economic repair/investigation since they suggested that the board will probably need replacing, plus call-out, labour, other parts, etc. If you have any further thoughts about this I would be very much value your opinion. Oh dear, I wonder if these guys were fully conversant with Zanussi machines? Being pessimistic without first looking at it smacks of them not really having a clue I reckon? I wonder why they think “the board” will need replacing anyway? That’s an odd conclusion as its probably just a connection problem.
Usually when the board fails it does first give an error code after all. For the display to go blank suggests to me the module is not connected properly or else it would at least show something?
Have you spoken to the local Zanussi service agent?
The lads there would give a true and honest appraisal over the phone I’m sure! 😉
(Ask to speak to an engineer)
