On whirlpool topload washer 3CAP2782BWO – it washes ok,gearbox coupling is ok, but it don’t spin out everytime, water goes but basket needs me to push it round before it starts to spin. Could this be the clutch, I,ve got the spare spart called Direct Drive Clutch Assembly (285785 ) – 481969018152, but i have never fitted one before, can anyone help ?? Thanks in advance.
Fitting a clutch is straightforward enough.Just drop the gearbox out of the bottom,no need to take the cabinet off and make sure you use the correct spring.
But before you start check for oil leak from the gearbox into the clutch which is indicated by a spray line around the bottom of the cabinet.
The new clutch won’t last long if it gets contaminated 😉
thanks steve, do you need to prop the machine up or lay it on its side when you take the gearbox out with the front panel off, also pulling the drive out through the tub doesn’t that break any water seals and do you need to put new seals on when you push the drive back through, do you need to loosen or undo anything in the tub except for the agitator.
many thanks MAX
Just take off the agitator and any spacers then tip the machine back against the wall, take off the pump hoses and disconnect wiring from motor & capacitor.
Undo three bolts and gearbox drops out,no seals to worry about
You will need a 3/16″ & a 1/2″ socket for the bolts, clutch kit comes with instruction sheet.
Thanks very much steve I fitted the clutch today you are right it was straight forward and took just under the hour, next one I do will be much quicker machine left working like new
thanks again, Max
