ParticipantI have a six year old AEG Competence 54081 B-D double oven which has had very little use (maybe once a month – single male household). Type 56 HQL 43 GD PNC 944 183 017.
Ever since I can remember I have had to be sure the top oven was properly closed as it had a nasty habit of not coming on and sometimes need to be slammed shut before the heating light illuminated.
Yesterday, after a very rare roast duck, I decided to use the pyrolitic self cleaning facility (maybe used twice before in its life). The oven came on ok and seemd to go through the first hour of the 2hr 30min clean cycle ok. Then it seemed to stop heating but I left it to complete the cycle.
A day later and whilst the clock functions the control cooling fan works and the lower oven seems fine, the top oven internal light and internal fan do not function and it does not heat up. Also, though the knobs illuminate the heat light on the control panel does not.
Please can someone help diagnose this fault and advise me on how to effect a repair, AEG have quoted £50 call out and then £31 per hour plus parts which seems really steep. 😯

Hi Mad Dog,
That’s a full on multi-function pyro oven that sounds as if the door microswitch is dodgy on. It’s going to be a pain to get into and they’re pretty complex beasts as well so I wouldn’t recommend the DIY route.
On the upside, it’s most certainly worth the repair cost.

Thanks Kwatt for the reply. I was beginning to wonder if there was anyone else out there !
I had ‘the man’ today and it proved to be the top oven safety cut out resistor (small thing in a clear plastic sleave and apparently costs only pence) it would seem. It was hidden on the top of the oven and needed some stripping to get to. He said it was a part that does go U/S on occasion but that he was surprised to see it go on such a young oven.
Still its repaired and working and has just gone through its pyro cycle successfully so all seems fine, just a little pile of white ash to sweep up once it cools.
