Does anything else work in the socket? Plug the kettle in and see what happens.
If it started the programme and then died after a short while, it is possible that the heater coming on has blown something. It is, after all, the single heaviest load that the electrics have to deal with. I’d check for burnt out wiring at the mains suppressor and the on/off switch. Failing that, the computer board is the main suspect. If that proves to have blown, you may wish to think twice about repairing it.
If you have to scrap it, I wouldn’t feel too guilty about the carbon footprint. The sin lies fully at the manufacturers feet, not yours. Perhaps adding another £100 to your budget will get something with a useful service life and allow you to amortise the production costs over a greater period.
Power off when investigating.
