ParticipantMy tumble dryer (Hoover Logic Reversing Dryer E ) continually trips its heating circuit, which sounds an annoying alarm and requires a manual reset at the front panel. I have taken the machine apart to remove dust and removed the drum to ensure that there is no sign of the elements burning but everything looks fine. The fan at the back of the unit is turning ok. The thermal sensor (model number 7803752) also looks ok but is there any chance it has deteriorated over time and is more sensitive to heat? I mustn’t grumble after getting 15 years of untroubled use out of the dryer but there is no point in chucking it out if the problem is just the sensor. If the sensor is unlikely to be the cause is there anything else that could be causing a higher than normal working temperature?

Model number would have helped (D6— probably). The bimetallic cut-out in the top of the heater plate has probably lost the will to live. Long since obsolete from Hoover, but if you contact spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and ask for a “Qtx TOC01”, you’ll probably solve the problem.
I assume that you have checked that the vent hose is clear and not crushed, similarly the “vent through the wall” (if applicable) is allowing good airflow?

Thanks Penguin45.
Reason I didn’t put the model number on is that the only label on the machine is a paper one which looks more like a QA inspection label. It has a number D6368-001 but I was not sure if this was the model number or not. I think it is worth a try replacing this part and, for speed, will try my local Hoover stockist first. The dryer is located in my garage with a long vent hose which gets thrown out the back door when in use. The dryer has been sitting in the middle of the garage door for test with the vent hose uncoupled and there is defenitely a good air flow.
If replacing the cut-out doesn’t work I will be replacing ithe dryer with a condensing model so I can get rid of the vent hose. Do Hoover still make good dryers? I was looking for reviews of the HNC382T but so far have come up blank.

Hi again,
Just been round to my local repair shop and was informed that the QTX TOC01 does not have a manual reset switch incorporated like the one fitted to my dryer. I was given the Hoover ref number 09036518 which can still be purchased on-line (special order) but got to thinking about the QTX device – will it switch off and on the heating elements automatically (i.e. no reset required) and if so would this be a better idea than the Hoover component?
Regards
Tom

IIRC, the TOC01 is the actual thermostat. If it fails to cycle the heat and the machine overheats, the manual reset one is tripped as a safety shut off.
If you look into the top of the heater plate, you should see it.
