ParticipantHi, as the subject says – no heat from the dryer. Drum turns etc. The fuse in the plug did blow so I replaced that but now no heat. I’ve done some searching and understand there are some internal fuses/thermostats etc that may have blown but can’t see how to locate/check them out – any ideas? Or, should I just buy a new one as this is 8 years old now?
Thanks for any advice.

Doh – just searched properly and found this:

will check out the thermostat at the front. Any suggestions for easy diagnostics appreciated. I have a multimeter (though not much experience with it apart from continuity testing).

Decent enough dryer……… Start at the back BTW – heater and main stats are back there and far more likely to be the source of your problem.
Stay safe, power off at all times.

Thanks Penguin, will do that. To test these components am I simply looking for continuity (to start with) across the terminals connecting into the component?

HI again – how do I test of the thermostat has failed?

Correct, although you will need to spit the circuit to avoid “back” readings. All stats are normally closed on this appliance, heater should read 20-30 ohms.
Power off, of course.

OK, so here’s the results of the testing:
continuity – heater
unplugged one of the wires from a heater terminals and used my multimeter to test for continuity – no beep. To check the meter, reconnected the wire and tested again – this time the meter beeped so I guess that is working. If the heater should have a continuous circuit through it then does this mean the heater is broken?
Thermostats
In the absence of any writing, I’m guessing that the two white plastic components that are connected with a brown wire going in and a black wire going out (which is then connected to the heater) are the thermostats. After disconnecting a wire from each of these – they both tested OK for continuity.Does it look like the heater/heating element is the problem here?
Thanks

Yep the heater’s had it….very common fault as faults go. Incidentally, the new heater comes complete with a new pair of stats too 😉
If the right heater isn’t in Shop@ then i’m sure a quick email to Dave Conway will produce the goods! The part number is 481225928675

Many thanks – part ordered. Much cheaper than a new dryer which was the original plan- let’s see if it lasts another 8 years

Ah – just realised somthing else! Where the electricity cable enters the dryer, there is a white component (capacitor?) and I failed to note which way the central 2 wires were connected (one has a green end and the other a white end). I’ll try and include an image here:

I’m guessing the way the two wires are connected is important as they have different coloured ends. Can’t see any markings to indicate polarity? Any ideas – apart from going 50:50???

Hi – my heater unit has arrived. Am about to fit today so if someone can answer the question in the previous post re the green and white connectors that would be really helpful.
Thanks

Massive thanks to you guys – dryer is operational again! It is great to have both learnt and saved money! I’ll now move onto replacing the rubber seal on the washing machine…..
