ParticipantI have a Whirlpool AWZ7303 condensor dryer which is about 2 years old. It has recently developed a very nasty and loud squeek when the drum is turning in an anti-clockwise direction. It is OK the other way.
It isn’t ther all the time. When the machine is cold it isn’t there. It does happen more when it has a heavier load (though not over load). Sounds like a dry bearing but I have no idea where.
I had the back off, took out the two supporting wheel, took them apart, cleaned them (in side the wheel and on the rim), re-greased and re-build. It hasn’t made a difference. The spindles through the wheels looked worn but only for about 45 degrees of the surface.
Is it the wheels, the spindles or something else?
Thanks for any pointers.

Belt tension pulleys are always a good bet for squeaks.
Power off when investigating,

The pulley wheels will tend to be noisy in both directions. Your best bet is the fan.

I hadn’t thought of the fan. I’ll take it apart again and take a look.
Thanks for your help.

Some tumble dryers have a copper strip to earth the drum to the chassis (normally viewed from an access plate at the back) After 2 years this should be wearing through. This will cause a very anoying squeek often in one direction only. If it is this, its cheap and easy to fix. Heres hoping.
