Hi i have had my dryer for a few years now and i have to admit its on at least once every day and has always given me faithful service, last year we noticed that the kitchen was getting soaked with condensation every time the dryer was on, if i packed the side of the door with a tea towel it wasnt so bad, so i bought a new door seal, this made no difference and my hubby noticed that the dorr mechanism (on the casing) was buckled so i bought a new one online and hey presto it worked, now one year on depite the tumble having been on gentle it has done exactly the same thing, i dont think its overheating so is this normal wear and tear or is it the symptom of something more drastic?
    many thanks in advance

Take out the condenser matrix at the bottom and give it a good clean. With the condenser removed, clean inside the cavity paying close attention to the air intake grill to the front fan.

When you get all this excessive condensation, do you notice that the water container doesn’t fill up with much water I wonder?

Re: whirlpool AWZ 650 recurring problem

to be honest i hadnt given it much notice!!!! because it has happened before and it was solved when i replaced the door catch i just presumed the same thing had happened again, and the lock looks very buckled making the whole door wquite difficult to open it needs a good pull (what a great excuse to get him indoors to load the dryer!!!)
however after the load i have just done the water container is not even a quarter full and normally it would be full, i checked everything i could see for fluff and even ran the hoover into it although i have to say it didnt seem to bad. What causes the door lock mechanism to buckle is it just melting?

To be honest Amanda from what you have told me your dryer sounds like a very dangerous old heap. I think for safetys sake at least we shouldn’t pursue the issue any longer. Its best years are long gone, time to write a letter to Santa Claus in time for Christmas before that machine causes serious issues? 🙁

Re: whirlpool AWZ 650 recurring problem

It’s caused by the rubber seal around the fan housing being worn or fallen off. It lets the very hot steam through which actually melts the plastic door catch from the inside. The drum gaskets can also wear allowing steam to condense on the inside panels of the machine, where it turns to water and appears on your floor.
I come across this problem 2 or 3 times a week. Not a difficult repair

Re: whirlpool AWZ 650 recurring problem

I have my awz 650 in bits and am not sure what seal for the fan you are referring to that may have fallen off. Can you be a little more specific. I am suffering from the same door catch issue but want to ensure that I replace all necesary part to prevent a reoccurrance of the problem.

    TIA

    John
