I’ve got one of these built-in machines to replaced the door boot (1601955). I wonder if the front panel can be removed to access it without getting the machine out?

The builders fitted the machine in this tiny utility room then cemented the ceramic floor tiles right up to the adjusting feet. The feet will not budge so getting it out is not an option. I need to order a new seal and return to fit it but won’t bother if the front panel cannot be removed in situ?

Conventional Hotpoints at least require taking the lid off to access the timer knob before the control panel front can be removed. This beast looks every bit the same as far as I can see. The knobs will have to be removed first I should think?

    HELP !!!! 😕

Afraid so Martin, what plonkers. I have a couple of these on my plot, one of them is so badly installed that it is virtually impossible to put back without trapping the fill & drain hoses that all come out at the bottom, lashings of string and tape needed. 😥

Second post in case you have already read the first one Martin.

One way to resolve this would be to order a new timer control knob, force or break the old one off, you should then be able to remove the console and the front panel. As the timer knob is not a push/pull On/Off knob, it only needs to be ‘push on’ tight to refit.

Changed a door seal on a diplomat built in washer the other day. Managed to do it just from the front. (normally top and front). As long as the clamp band screw isn’t directly at 12 oclock you should be able to get a dumpy screwdriver on it. May be worth a go rather than accidentally cracking the console whilst removing timer knob.

This is a washer /dryer though. almost impossible to change seal without removing the front panel. The knob is only £4.90 + vat list. Grab it with mole grips and yank it off, no need to lever against the facia.

I know washer dryers are generally more difficult but this seal has no extra spout part to connect to the heater box. The heater box is set into the front tub plate. If you do loosely fit new knob, even though you don’t pull it out turn turn on, the customer is bound to complain even if you do clear it with them first.

I sort of knew that, 😉 I have tried this once only and failed. It would be very difficult to retighten the seal retaining clamp sufficiently with a small dumpy, through the front panel, even if you did manage to release the original seal.

I would suspect that the customer would be happier to have a loose knob than have the flooring ripped up. It is possible to get these knobs fairly tight before pushing back on.

    Re: Hotpoint BW61P Washer/dryer help?

Sorry if i stated the obvious but I thought the point you were making was that as it is a washer dryer it is more difficult than a washer, due to the heater box being involved. No recall as of yet to the diplomat machine, so hopefully the dumpy screwdriver did the job.

No problem, some door seals are very tight fitting to start with, the clamp just holds them in place, the seals on Hotpoint machines in the main require the seal clamp to be as tight as possible or they will leak.

The job is booked for 9am on Friday. Dumpy screwdiver fitting through the front is not an option (as Jim points out) on these Hotpoints. So its Molegrips to the timer knob time I reckon………..wish me luck 😕

    Re: Hotpoint BW61P Washer/dryer help?

Didn’t need the force of molegrips in the end, just a gentle tug with pliers and the timer knob slid off undamaged. I was then easily able to remove the fascia panel and front panel etc etc, job sorted…thanks again guys! 😀
