    Much as I enjoy some entertainment in the utility room (don’t we all) I was most perturbed when my 6 month old machine started flashing me. 😆 There are 5 LEDS in a vertical row and it is LEDs 2 and 4. Machine stopped after making a peculiar ‘electrical sparking’ noise in conjunction with some clicking (before draining or spinning). The door won’t unlock either (tried switching on and off) and I’d like to retrieve the contents!

    If I could find the bloody receipt I would phone the engineer straight away. I’m sure the retailer might be able to dig me out a proof of purchase if I pleaded with them, but do you think I will need it?

    I think it thinks it’s full of water (even if it isn’t). It won’t release the door lock unless you physically unplug it.

    Providing you sent in your guarantee card, you won’t need your receipt. If you didn’t, all you need id proof of purchase – credit card receipt/statement for instance.

    Thanks – that’s very helpful.
    Does anyone have an idea what the flashing LED sequence represents? Just wondered if there is anything we could do to try and fix it without wasting the time of an engineer.

    If this is an accurate description then you really must get this machine seen to, don’t keep trying it. Remove the plug and get Hotpoint out. The serial number on the door incorporates a date code so the engineer will know exactly how old it is.
