Had problems with reticulation solenoid control on the motor controller board about 18 Months ago (just out of warranty, of course!). To fix temporarily and cheaply I just removed the problem components from the board and started with the drain hose in the tub at the start of the cycle & back to drain after it had filled.

Last week the motor control board died with a colorful display of black soot and grey putrid smoke. Lots of burnt tracks later and a week of battleing with the old machine that sort of worked I purchased a new motor controller board today and installed it. Whilst installing the board today I noticed the hot water solenoid had a conspicous bulge on the side of the coil, combining that with the knowlodge that the old burnt tracks were all from the cold/hot solenoid area on the board I decided that I would try it without the hot water solenoid pluged in and just do a cold wash.

After successfully deciding that it might be okay to leave the hot water solenoid plugged in if the machine was just told to do a cold wash; I now come up against a ‘Fault Code 9 : Please Contact etc.” message when I press the start button to start at any point in the cycle (wash, rinse, spin etc).

The board still appears to be good. Unplugging any of the sensors results in an instantaneous fault but having the motor / pump unplugged achieves nothing.

Would really appreciate any info / direction you can provide.

PS Motor Control Board cost is $179 + $15 PH over the phone from F&P. Haven’t costed hot water solenoid yet.
