5750313066Hi,
We have a Neff double electric fan oven (about 6 yrs old, details above). The bottom fan oven has started tripping our distribution board RCD when heating up to temperatures above ~180.
The thermostat works fine for temperatures below 180, kicking in and out as necessary, and the oven does get hot, with the fan spinning ok.
I did take the back off to see if I could see anything – nothing obvious, other than a bit grubby round the fan of the bottom oven.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rich.November 26, 2006 at 10:19 pm #196410eastlmark

Most likely the fan element breaking down when really hot, at least that is the most likely cause.

Hi
Ive had some that have had earth leakage on grill element and when using fan assisted cooking have tripped RCD at a certain temp.
Only a test with a “mega” will be able to establish the culprit.Power off if you are to investigate :plug:

Thanks for the quick replies. I’d only just finished a cup of tea!
Sorry to be stupid, but just trying to find out if you’re both suggesting the same thing – the oven heating element.
>>Most likely the fan element breaking down when really hot, at least that is the most likely cause.
Do you mean the fan itself or the oven heating element?

Only a test with a “mega” will be able to establish the culprit. The bottom oven has no grill element, just the heating element at the back. I guess the same thing could apply to that?
Cheers,

In that case eastlmark has probably hit the nail on the head.
The part you need is 494643 the half moon element.

Well the half-moon heating element arrived promptly – thanks uk whitegoods!
I fitted it last night but am now faced with a new problem:
The element is heating up ok, the fan is spinning fine as before but the oven is “apparently” not getting up to temperatures above 50-100. I say apparently because this is where the thermostat light clicks on and off when I turn the temperature dial.
The inside of the oven feels hot, but I can’t tell if it’s 100 degrees or more without a thermometer.
One thing I have noticed is that there is a vent in the top of the oven which a second fan blows air over (between the top and bottom ovens) – effectively evacuating the hot air from the bottom oven. Now I thought the fan used to do this when the oven was cooling down to expel the hot air quicker. It now seems to be on permanently during oven heating, which may explain why the bottom oven is not reaching temperature.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

It could be that the “Temperature Limiter” thermostat has failed or that the fan simply isn’t running at full speed? (the latter can be eliminated if it takes ages to come to a stop once you turn it off?)

ParticipantI am having exactly the same symptoms with my Neff double oven in that it trips out the main RCD every 10 mins or so if the fan oven temp is set much above 180c.
Has anybody got any ideas on where the problem might lie.
The model is U1320B0GB.Cheers

A dodgy element perhaps having earth breakdown at a certain temperature.
An earth leakage test of component/s with a suitable meter will identify the offender.
Power off if you are to attempt.Greg

Hi,
I have exactly the same fault with my Neff U1421N0GB, it will run all day below 180c but above that it will trip the mail RCD for the whole house. The fan seems to be working fine. Has anyone successfully repaired this fault?? Cheers tunnyApril 29, 2007 at 5:46 pm #196420Penguin45
