    Hi All

I have a Hotpoint WM 53 that has developed a clicking sound coming from the motor. I took the lid off and rotated the drum by hand to confim this as the source of the noise. I found that one of the brush holders had sprung loose, and re-located this, but the clicking sound has remained, and even got louder. Added to this is a smell of “electrical burning” which I assumed was coming from the loose brush arcing due to poor contact, however even after relocating the brush, the smell remains…

Is the machine safe to operate?

Can the clicking sound (which I think may be coming from the commutator) be repaired?

Do I need a new motor, and if so, I see on some websites that replacement motors are advertised with a “converter kit”…

The motor in the machine is of Type: 904/1158/10, are the “green label” FHP motors compatible with this…

thanks in advance for detailed answers…

    Regards
    Kevin

The new FHP motor and conversion kit will do the job, try our spares link for pricing. Don’t buy from eSpares whatever you do. 😥

This is the one you need, http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Washing+ … Motor.html

Please remove the plug at all times when your hands are inside.

Oh yes he has you know, by simply giving you the link to obtaining a new motor which is what you need and is a straighforward replacement, no conversion kit required! 🙂

What I perhaps should have said is, if you know what you are doing you do not need the conversion kit, if you don’t then you will need part number 1604976 as well.

Re: Hotpoint WM53 clicking motor and burning smell

The clicking noise is a raised segment on the commutator of the armature. It bounces the carbon brush off the running surface, causing arcing and the burning smell. The segment will eventualy separate, the brushes will be destroyed by the hole and the ensuing short circuit will blow the electronics.

    Hope that’s clear enough,
