both our dishwasher and fridge (under the worktops job for both) seem to have given up – the dishwasher has been playing up for a long while so it was expected but the fridge just stopped getting cold, and even though the light still comes on, its warm inside…

we’re looking to find a replacement dishwasher for sure (we have an 8 year old smeg and its rubbish – im thinking bosch to replace) – can i get any built in type dishwasher and it will fit in the space? are they all standardized sizes or am i stuck with a much smaller range of ones that’ll fit under the worktop and will allow the bit of wood that matches the cupboards to screw on to the front?

does anyone think we might be able to fix the fridge and have a rough idea how much it might cost? if its anywhere close to the cost of a replacement then ill just get another (with a new waranty)… again, its fitted under the worktops with a screw on door… how do these things work? how do i know what fridges will fit in the space? i’m hoping that all the built in ones will fit in the gap but am worried that it’s much more complicated than that

    help!

what’s the best brand of fridge (built in models) to go for?
or what ones should be avoided!
and will it be simple enough to fit myself?

    cheers

    Hi

Bosch for the dishwasher for sure. If the space is 600 wide then yes that is standard. There are two types of built in dishwashers, semi integrated whereby you see the control panel and fully integrated where the controls are on the top edge of the door. You need to know which as the wooden doors are different heights. The “wet” side of the install is okay if you are DIY minded, the timber door can be a bit of a rascal as the height will need to be adjusted to match the other doors in the run.

As for the fridge yep you guessed Bosch again and the same thing with the timber door.

Bosch appliances come with a good build and a two year guarantee.

Other good brands to look IMO would be Neff, AEG, Hotpoint and Whirlpool

    thanks for the reply.
i measured the width of the fridge space as 597 which is a little under 600 but i couldve been off by a few mm… so i think ill be okay..

our dishwasher is mostly wooden panel that matches the rest of the kitchen with a 3inch white plastic strip of dishwasher at the top… does that make sense? what does it mean i need?

ive found an AEG fridge on the trade-appliances.co.uk website and wondered if its any good (ive heard good things about AEG and its cheaper than the bosch so..) the model number is SU8600041

    any ideas?

    thanks

If the 3″ strip has the controls on it, then you will need a semi integrated appliance.

    you’re right!
its at leat £40 cheaper than the Bosch but only has a 1 year warranty.. the Bosch has 2 years which might be worth the extra £££…

Definately……. Also, suggests that the manufacturer has confidence in their product..

    Errr, not strictly true!

In fact the second year is covered by Domestic & General, they take the risk in the hope customers will continue with their extended warranty scheme beyond that? 😉

almost there but now confused… was thinking of buying both dishwasher and fridge from the boots website but got a little confused by the wording on the boots site about the fridge and rang to check it was what i wanted (ie a under the counter fridge that i can attach my door panel that matches my cabinets too)… i thought it was exactly that and just wanted them to confirm coz there site didnt quite make sense but they said it wasnt a ‘built in’ fridge at all so now im unsure whether the girl i spoke to is an idiot… or i am!

    can someone confirm for me?
the fridge is the Bosch KUR15A40GB

    thanks!

    thanks!

its all very confusing at first – ‘built in’ i had… ‘intergrated’ id figured out… but ‘built under’ was a whole new phrase and i wasnt sure that it meant the same thing…

why are customer service phone lines so often completely useless!

I always recommend customers to visit there own local independant retailer. Granted you may pay a little extra but the level of service you recieve far outways the increase in price 😉

    Here! Here!

Replacing any integrated appliance, disconnecting, re-installing and trying to swap door panels over is a tricky business. Buying replacement appliances from the likes of Boots is a complete waste of time in my opinion.

Go to Boots for your sun tan lotion and corn plasters and not to buy integrated domestic appliances. They are clueless as are many Internet based suppliers for such things!
