ParticipantI have tried to search through the discussion list for E8 errors and despite seeing one in the subject like the search doesnt find any – so appologies for asking a question which may have come up before
I have the above dishwasher and it has just started coming up with the E8 error – I have tried switching on and off and checking filters and anything visible but no luck
are there any basic things i could be checking before having to call an engineer ? or anything as a fairly bright end user i could try to do ?
the unit is integrate so I am guess if I need an engineer the kitchen will have to be taken apart 🙁

Alternator valve underneath has failed – defo an engineers job I’m afraid. Use the link below for a UKW engineer in your area.

hi penguine. by alternator , is that what i’d call a diverter. i.e. to send spray to different sections. the history to this is that a bloke saw my van the other day and offered to give me this dishy. his insurance had agreed to buy him another. when i saw that the facia was stainless s i took it as it’ll go great in my kitchen. (white whirlpool out).
he told me that the machine was “stuck” on half load.
i opened it up and checked the diverter by
1. continuity on the stepper motor.
2. checked for foreign objects and that the cogs are free.
3. powered it up on the bench and it ticks away beautifully.reassembled the whole thing and tried a prewash.
every thing seemed fine for a couple of mins and then e8
reset it and tried a diff cycle and same thing again.
tried a normal cycle and after five mins of heating again it went e8.
during the running period i could hear the water “diverting through the various tubes.
then the lecky tripped.
after getting the megger around the usual suspects i discovered a slight leak in the rinse aid dispenser causing an earth fault in the rinse aid level sensor.
powered it up again and now things have got worse.
when i select a cycle i get a split second of drain pump and then nothing for a few seconds and then E8.
i’ve checked the pump by activating the aquastop and it runs fine.so finally to the 64000 dollar question. if i’m happy with the diverter, am i looking at a board fault, especially since the earth fault? can any other less common fault be attributed to E8?
finally any idea of cost of a board. (trade) i’ve searched masterpart and qualtex.
anybody got a tech manual i could take a peek of.
i’m potentially on mega brownie points with the missus if i get this sorted, although i’d rather keep the whirlpool.
cheers
keithp.s. i forgot to say that this dishy is a smeg dwd 1 e

this probably isnt going to help much 🙂 but I am continuing to use our washer – it comes up with e8 at the very end of the wash – but everything is washed fine and the cycle finishes ok – i think the error comes up after the wash has finished but before the machine has cooled
I know I need to get it looked at – but while it still kinda works . . . . . 😉
