French press reports that Fagor Brandt (Fagor, Brandt, De Dietrich & other brands) workers have gone on strike in a dispute over pay for night shift allowances but it would appear that more is involved.
Although reports are sketchy the stop appears planned for Wednesday morning, 30 workmen of the plastic workshop in the established in the district of Gerland have decided to cease their work following a reduction of their pay wanted by the management, according to the Southern trade unions and CGT.
According to the workers, the removal of the night shift did not involve a reduction of manpower but of their remuneration precisely including the premium rates paid for night shift work. This involved a fall from €380 to €220 in pay.
The group has four factories in France of which the Lyon factory employs 650 workers.
According to the trade unions, “the fall of activity is related to the progressive transfer of the production in Poland. What destroys employment in Lyon and degrades the environment, because of tens of trucks which transport the machines through Europe”.
No comment has been offered by Fagor Brandt on the dispute.
