ParticipantThis washing machine (my daughter’s) is about 4 years old
During final spin, the ring main circuit tripped out. On restoration, the washine machine had stopped functioning. The mains light on the machine is operational, but nothing else . . . 🙁
Where do I start to diagnose? 😕
Thanks,
Tony

Logic would say test the motor for an earth fault and look for leaks too.
Power off when investigating! 😉December 3, 2006 at 1:04 am #196887Megavolt

Thanks Clive – seems a good logical start. I guess if there’s a fault there, then a new motor could be an expensive item, unless it’s just a question of drying out the insulation. I’ll check tomorrow (later today).
But if nothing else is operational, could it suggest a timer fault as a secondary effect? On resetting the timer to ‘zero’ at least we got the door open and retrieved the contents, but upon selecting a test wash. the time does not click over.
Thanks again,

Motor fault as Clive mentioned and likely as not a fault with the main circuit board (module)?….Could be very expensive all told? 🙁

Hi Martin,
Unfortunately makes even more sense as thre might have been a resultant voltage spike from the motor fault to do nasty things with the board 😥
Maybe it’s time for an early Christmas present.
But why, oh why, do all whitegoods always seem to get terminally ill around the Christmas period?? 😕
Thanks,
Tony

Yes indeed, the only glimmer being if a repairable leak has caused a motor earth fault then a new pcb might be the only part required. We in the trade can sometimes get pcb’s repaired too at a much lower cost that replacement 😉

Thanks again Clive.
The motor appeared fine, with no trace of water leakage, although I didn’t have a megger to fully check the insulation resistance.
However, with daughter and young grandson requiring early solution to the problem, an early Christmas present has been delieved and installed. So if anybody in the Great Yarmouth area wants a Servis 3311W for ‘spares or repair’ it’ll be available until the Council pick it up.
Thanks again,
Tony
