ParticipantI have a Diplomat ADP 8132 that has been temperamental in the past with many of the problems described on this forum. Mostly I have solved the problem (thanks!) and the dishwasher works well. But… now the door is shut fast! I can’t open it. I suspect that it is the latch but cannot find a way to get to it. I have turned off the electricity and water, tugged at the door, pushed it, hit it, sought advice in the manual but to no avail. Before I jemmy it open do you have any advice for what the cause might be and how I might magically open the door without destroying the machine? The fact that there are dishes, cutlery etc in there that my wife needs adds a certain sense of urgency!!! Thanks in advance.

You’ve picked a good one……. If the machine does not have the upwards pointing retaining screws, you can drag the unit out and release the catch part on the body from above and sort it from there. If the unit won’t move, first degree violence is the only solution. Accept that the latch mechanism in the door has already failed and needs to be replaced and pull. Vigorous shaking occasionally helps, but no guarantees.
spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to supply a replacement latch assembly for you.
Power off at all times if you are going to replace this yourself.

The unit won’t move – well I couldn’t get it to budge! But I did manage to force the door open from the side with a lever. So plates recovered!
So now the latch. It looks OK. I can’t see any broken parts. I even shut the door again to test it. Yes, it got stuck again (and levered it off again!). It feels like it is just really stiff. But I suspect you’re going to tell me that the latch mechanism is broken all the same. Is it a mechanical or electrical fault?
If I do need a new latch could you give me an indication of the sort of cost for a replacement part and whether it is reasonably straightforward to fix? Oh and where could I get one?
Thank you

Correct, very perceptive! 😀 It’s a mechanical failure in the lock assembly. It’s called a “turn over” mechanism, and now, it doesn’t. You need p/no 697690139, around £15 from memory. An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk with the part number will get things moving for you.
Power off when you get down to fitting…….
