After the dangerous Zanussi this one turns up in the space of a month!
Having fitted a set of brushes to this hotpoint and carried out a rinse and spin I stood there waiting for the door lock light to go out, customer pipes in, “the door lock light never goes out you can open it while its working”. She had brought this machine recon out of the local paper from some trader about a year ago. On inspection the door lock had been by passed.
I explained to her the dangers of using this machine especially as she had a 3 year old boy who was into everything (he started up the tumble dryer while I was there for example).
I told her to get this so called trader back to sort it out and if he did not respond contact Trading Standards or the Inland Revenue as he insisted on cash and gave her no receipt. 👿
With that I left leaving her an invoice condeming the machine and stating that I had left it unplugged. 🙁Re: Dodgy Hotpoint WM 52
I bet he bypassed the lock as the initial fault was probably the interlock having blown the neutral supply tracks on the timer.
I had this on a Hotpoint 9901 w/d a few years back – elderly lady customer complaining of an ‘electrical tingling sensation’ when she wiped the machine worktop after use. The machine was under 3 weeks into its 3 month warranty, but the trader had refused to go and repair it again. (he had already been twice before and told her quite bluntly to stop fussing!)
The interlock had been bypassed and the amp tags had been loosely slotted together end to end: touching the inside of the cabinet front panel – no insulation whatsoever!! :eeek: The only thing between the wires and the metal body was the paint. 😯
I unplugged the machine, taped up the plug, and told her not to use it and report it to Trading Standards. Surely it must be an offence to deliberately disable a safety device fitted by a manufacturer as original equipment?
How do these people still continue to trade unchecked? Moreover, how can they sleep at night??Steve.

had this so many times i have forgotten how many
culprits are rogue traders and do it yourself people trying to save money
we all know the dangers but they seem to get away with it
