ParticipantI have a GW709AU washing machine that blew the main 2A F124 (motor controller) fuse during filling. I can easilly just replace the fuse, but need to find out what may have caused it to blow in the event that there is other damage. One of the diodes appears to be a dead short in circuit, but I haven’t had the time to remove it and check it properly. What I am after in the meantime is any common issues with this model and a schematic diagram.
Thanks,
Brian

Hopefully P45 will be back from the pub soon, he has a thing about F & P. 😉

This is the Forum to be in, Iadom! Strange things afoot at the crossroads, what?
BA, you’re in the Oz Forum now, there is a wealth of info here. Check the sticky above and run the diagnostics. I have some access to F+P Tech – the schematics are singularly unhelpful. All the wires join to the motor controller; we know that.
If you are sure that the motor is the culprit, the module blowing is a symptom – not a cause. Check under the drum for leakage from the pump and drum centre seal, check loom to motor for damp, corrosion, chaffing. Meter across the star points – coil readings should be more or less identical across all three.
Starting point for you,
Stay safe and keep the power off.

Thanks for the pointers. I have checked for leaks and found none. The windings on the motor are all around the same value, so dont think the motor has caused the issue. I have found that the motor ‘B winding’ driver transistor is a dead short, so are attempting to get a replacement (IRG4RC10S). While this may be a widely used part in the UK, it is certainly not so popular in OZ… I am attempting to order one from an interstate supplier. I suspect a power surge previously may have weakened it, until it finally failed as there are no other components I can find damaged around it (not with a meter anyway)…
Great site by the way…. And Yes the power was off…

Check the inlet water valves/coil 24V
Resistance 64Ohm For hot & cold
They can sometimes be a culprit -
