ParticipantHi, I would appreciate a bit of advice regarding a Fisher Paykel GW709AU Smart Drive washing machine. Apparently the machine was making a screeching noise just before it took-out a 16A circuit breaker and left a burning smell. When I inspected the motor, one (possibly 2) of the stator windings are burnt-out.
My question is; would a shorted turn in a stator winding take out any of the control electronics or vice versa? I would not like to replace the stator assembly and see the same happen again. Cheers.December 13, 2006 at 6:43 am #197781bigsmokepiker

It certainly can
Is There power to Machine ?
Was there any signs of leak?
Check Rotor Position sensor ( ie PCB Attached to windings) for signs of corrsion as wellDecember 14, 2006 at 12:11 am #197782tekbitz

The unit does not power-up at the moment. I guess there is an internal fuse somewhere.
Yes there are slight signs of water leakage into the motor. I will have to remove the shaft and check the seals for the source of the leakage. After closer inspection, it appears that there might have been tracking between the two adjacent coils on the stator.
There are slight signs of corrosion on the rotor position sensor PCB but I assume that will be replaced with a new stator assembly.
Is there anywhere I can get a schematic drawing of the machine?
Cheers,

I have since had a look at the motor controller board. It is a real mess. First of all, both fuses have blown up in spectacular fashion and splattering the PCB. Over half of the BYW950 diodes have actually cracked or are shorted. All of the G4RC10S output transistors are shorted etc.
I will have to get a quote on the required parts but it looks like repairing this machine is not going to be an economical proposition.
Cheers.
