Hopefully someone can help despite the fact I don’t have any useful details about my oven! 🙂
All I know is that it’s a Belling Format (electric), and that it’s old enough not to be on the Belling website anymore, and as the cooker was left in the property I bought, I don’t have a manual with any specific model details.

Basically, the oven has stopped heating up, though the fan still kicks in, and from looking through this forum it seems that replacing the heating element is the answer and that it’s something that isn’t too tricky to do yourself.

Firstly, would anyone strongly recommend that I DON’T try to replace the element myself?

Secondly, do you have spares for Belling Format’s, and is it one size fits all or will you need to know the specific ‘format xxx’ number?

I guess the model and serial number could be on the back of the cooker, but I’m at work at the moment so if I know that it’s possible to get/fit the parts then I’ll look later on and post the details here if needed.

    thanks for any help.

Re: Belling format oven: heating element

    Hi Steve

It does sound like the element to me.

Unfortunately, belling made several main oven elements for the format range so we are going to need the model number to be certain.

If you cannot ascertain the model number (which should be on the back of the unit), try removing the back panel from inside the main oven cavity itself and look at the element from the inside.

Chances are it will be a completely round element, (known as ELE001) although some of them were strangely shaped a bit like the outline of a human head with hair (known as ELE450). Once you know what of the two it is, our spares@ service will be able to source one for you. The link is below my signature.

It is absolutely vital you disconnect the appliance from the mains supply BEFORE you carry out any inspection or repair on the appliance and don’t just rely on switching it off at the mains.

Your safety is more important than anything so don’t trust the housing wiring!.

As for changing it yourself, if you are reasonable at DIY you should be ok following the advise above. If you are in doubt, save yourself the hassle and get a proper engineer out to do it for you. Again, a good reliable one can be sourced by clicking on the repairs@ line below my signature.

If you need further assistance, come back on the forum and I am sure someone will help.

    Regards all

Thanks for the reply and the advice.
I’ll try to get a model number this evening. I’m wasting away since I can’t cook oven chips!

    –update–
D’oh! The back of the cooker has no information on it. So I guess i’ll have to take the old element out and see what it looks like…

    Hi.

I took the panel off and it’s a nice round element, so I’ll look into getting the one you said.
    Thanks for your help.
