Oh I’m sure your talents are boundless! 🙂
You’ll have great fun taking it apart getting to the root of the problem. Take care when handling the side panels as they are razor sharp! 😯
Grinding noise? Usually the front drum bearers, the rear drum shaft support, could be noisy motor bearings or even a worn out belt tensioner?
Lots to consider really….? 😉
You could also get a local independent engineer to check it out? (see link below for one in your area)

Sarcasm doth not become thee. 😐
I take the point though.
I have had a quick look and the felt strip keeps falling off and now the drum is quite sharp at the top,
Also the drum does lift up does this mean the rear bearings are gone too?
Is it worth repairing?December 14, 2006 at 4:30 pm #197868Martin

There should be some play with the drum anyway. At the back it’s just a drum shaft going into a phospor-bronze bush, easily checked out visually for wear.

Worth checking out at least, mind them sharp panels now! 😉

If the front duct that the fluff filter slots into is metal, the only long term repair for this machine is a drum & duct kit. The whole sheebang was completely modified, it now has a plastic duct at the front, new drum, stats, fan, back plate, seals etc, etc. The conversion kit contains all the parts but costs around £50.00 plus vat. If as you say the your drum front has been rubbing metal on metal then replacing the seals and bearings will be a waste of time.
Part number of kit is 1702495, although I would strongly advise fitting by someone with the required experience.
Jim.
