    Has anyone ever come across this problem. We have a diplomat 4 burner gas hob which has been no trouble until now. It still works perfectly but the ignition sparks on it’s own every 33 seconds.
    None of the switches are stuck down or anything.
    I will obviously call a service engineer but I just wondered if this is an unusual fault or something quite common.

    The ignitor unit is a capacitance discharge device, so presumably the insulation is breaking down internally and allowing it to charge.
