ParticipantHi,
I have a Zanussi DW908 dishwasher which is not longer draining water. I have taken apart all the obvious bits and there does not appear to be a blockage, so I am assuming the drain pump has probably broken.
I have two questions:
1) Is it likely that my assumption of a broken drain pump is correct?
2) Is this a DIY job or I am best advised to call in an engineer (I have a vague quote of £100 from the Zanussi recommend engineers if it is the drain pump that needs replacing)?I’d be most grateful for any advice on this matter.
Many thanks… 🙂

£100 is a little on the high side for a drain pump. It may just be blocked or otherwise obstructed. Not the hardest pump to change but we have know way of knowing your level of competence, if in doubt, don’t. 😉
Try the link at the bottom of this post to see if we have someone in your area who can help.

if it is the drain pump that needs replacing and its not blocked as previously indicated then £100 would be about right !

Drain pump is £34 list and can be fitted in approximately 1.5 minutes. £100 is excessive for a pro job.

umm no, just because you may think its excessive based on what you charge doesnt mean that another person with a different size business different overheads what the competition charge etc etc is charging excessively. Regional differences have a big part to play as well so you cant compare unless you know what that regions average charge would be.

Penguin45.Did I read that right, one and a half minutes???
What about the time it takes to get there, access and confirm diagnosis, fit the part, test & carry out safety tests etc.
Around £100 all in is about right I’m sorry to say. However the pump on that one was an Askoll, and very reilable indeed. Possible foreign body jamming impellor, accessible from within the sump of the appliance.
