had a little brain teaser fault last week and thought i would pass it on.
I was called to look at a current range hoover six machine fault reported was no spin after testing all possible componets i decided it must be the board.
however i decided to call a friend who used to work for hoover and he told me to megger both the heater and the motor as this could affect the controler in some way.
i did as he said and found the heater to be showing a dead short on the megger. i had a new heater on the van fitted and hey presto the machine was now fixed of its no spin fault . i have done this job for 26 years and was gob smacked a element earth reading could cause such a fault . well you never know this may help someone
cheers

Element earth faults on Hotpoint WM/WD Ultima range are well documented as causing spurious faults. If the element is down to earth only slightly it will often give the ‘no drain, check outlet pipe’ error message.
Heater problems on the old Hoover Soft wave/New wave often caused strange faults with the programmes as well.
Insulation faults on heaters causing strange faults definitely isn’t new. Must see one at least once a fortnight. Colin must have been lucky never to of had one till now. When i first started out i was changing heaters daily on the hoover new wave range.
Had exactly this fault yesterday on a HF7 130M. First time IME AFAI recall.
I think it’s the difference between soft water areas (as here) and hard water ones.
