    Hello all!

I’ve checked through some of the other threads and noted that the ZX series was prone to certain problems but was wondering whether this was the same kind of thing.

It no longer cools anything. Lights are on but inside is room temperature. Also I left it off for a bit, turned it back on and it didn’t make the usual ‘fridgey’ noises that it used to make.

It is a Zanussi ZX57/3 SI fridge freezer (I think the ‘SI’ denotes it’s silver) and I’ve had it for a couple of years, never had a problem before. Freezer’s at the bottom and it’s ‘frost free’. It’s got the grid of black fins at the back but they aren’t hot or anything. Fridge is kept in the kitchen in normal room temp. I am not aware of anything unusual happening to the fridge to cause this behavior. After a little reading would I be correct in thinking it is a problem with the thermostat? And if so would it be easy to replace myself?

A little knowledge can be a bad thing so please could someone let me know if I am on the right tracks?!?

    Cheers

Room temperature? Can you hear the compressor running? Click, click hum/whir? No compressor = no cooling. This could be a thermostat problem, but there are other possibilities.

That was a frighteningly quick reply!

No, as far as I can hear it makes no noise whatsoever when turning on from being unplugged. Maybe I should leave it for a few hours or so then give it another go.

OK, if you turn the thermostat knob back towards zero, does it “click”? If it doesn’t, it may well be faulty. To be sure, you need to do some circuit testing with a test meter for continuity. If you can’t do this, you must consider professional help, rather than throwing parts at it.

The thermostat is p/no is 2262199-11/6 if you want to take a punt (about £25 from memory), an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for prices and ordering.

BTW, if the stat does “click”, the problem may lie with the compressor itself – start device or motor unit itself.

HTH, power off if you are going to investigate.

Right, I took another look at it. The black thing near the bottom was cold (or at least, not hot). I also tried to turn the defrost timer round about a quarter turn but still nothing ‘kicked in’. Would this be indicative of a thermostat fault?

Thanks awfully for the help, this site is great!
