Whilst wowing my in-laws with a fab Saturday night meal 😀 , all electricity – lights and sockets – went off in the house.

My husband went to the kitchen to find an inch of water across the kitchen floor, spreading out into the hall.

Two torches and a few candles later, we discovered the water was coming out of the door of our washer dryer. Not in great floods, but a steady flow. We’d been in the kitchen for a lot of the duration of the washing cycle, and it was fine with no unusual noises. A buzzing noise was coming from the door, but when you applied pressure to it the buzzing stopped and the water was coming out faster.

After unplugging the washer, my father in law turned the electricity back on. We couldn’t see the level of water in the washing machine, but could tell from the water flowing out of the door that this was ABOVE the door window.

After mopping up the excess water from the floor, we decided to open the door and let the water out. The machine was allowing us to open and close the door, without using the release button on the machine. It emptied into about 4 buckets, with a small reservoir in the bottom of the machine.

The electrics have since been fine, and we have been able to run a spin cycle on the washer.

I am reluctant to use again as there is obviously a fault. We’re not sure why a leaking door would short the electrics, or if it’s something inside the machine (motor?) that would blow. However, if this were the case how would it have allowed us to run the spin cycle this morning?

Anyone had this before or know what it could be? The machine is out of warranty and we can’t find the manual!!!!!!

It sounds as if the water level control has failed, allowing the machine to fill to overflowing. This is also the probable cause of the leak as well – in normal use the water barely reaches the door glass.

Normal cause of this problem is the air hose to the level switch chaffing through against the drum.

    Power off, if investigating.
