My washing machine (Hotpoint Aquarius WF445A) is making a hell of a noise when it spins – so loud that i can’t be in the room at the same time. Also makes a very uncomfortable noise when it’s gearing up to spin (like grinding of gears in a car).

Is this the bearings or something else? The machine is only 18 months old and there’s only two of us so I’m surprised that it’s worn so quickly.

If it is the bearings, could it be done cheaper than the £95 call out fee for a Hotpoint Engineer (bearing in mind that the parts are guaranteed)?

Would be most grateful for any advice!

    Many thanks.

Yep sounds like the bearing have gone kaput. 🙁

My advice is to pay the £95 to Hotpoint. 😉

To be honest a lot of these machines are nowhere near the quality that they used to be or that people expect and now Hotpoint is pretty much an Indesit in disguise as that’s who owns Hotpoint now.

It could just be something in the drain pump, if you spin the inner drum by hand and it is nice and quiet then the bearings should be OK. The long term bearing fault that Hotpoint machines suffered a few years ago does seem to have been eliminated, that is not to say that it hasn’t returned. 😥

    Jim.
