Participant3 weeks ago I had a kitchen fitted by MFI that included a new Diplomat fan assisted electric oven ADP3700 model. I used the oven to heat (top and bottom plate option – rather than fan assist) and the base heating element has melted down the bottom of the oven – resulting in a kitchen full of black smoke and a caustic smog. I think the thermostat is faulty. Has anyone else heard of this problem?

Sounds likely – or an element gone to earth.

Not on the forum, as far as I can tell. You are under warranty, so get them out to it.

I have read many of the oven complaints on this site and have seen a number of complaints about Diplomat ovens. The problem that my oven has is a result of it being used as a ‘conventional oven’ – is this meaningful? The base plate has gone crispy – all the paintwork has melted.
Alycat had a similar problem that was described as a flaw in the enamel, and ghostly1 had a problem oven that cremated everything. These ovens are the same brand but different model – does that count for anything?
I have noted that AndreaStewart had a similar problem with the ‘fan element’ and Gweeks oven had a ‘terminal block cover melted’.
The oven supplier MFI sent an engineer out who was not at all helpful – he spent less than a minute here . They seem to be passing the buck.January 10, 2007 at 10:53 pm #200131wsts
Participantdid you have anything on the base of the oven ? eg Foil to keep the oven base clean ?
Diplomat ovens arent all made by the same company, I think the new ones are being made by Beko, but they buy in such bulk you may have one of the other makes that are branded up “Diplomat”.January 11, 2007 at 10:51 am #200132jellybean

No – there was no foil or anything else on the bottom. I didnt know Diplomat could be Beko. I was tols by MFI that Diplomat are a Stoves brand – I had no idea this could be beko or another cheaper brand. 🙁

Diplomat are an mfi brand and it is they who then ask manufacturers to build for them, the majority of ovens were Stoves.
