ParticipantI have a Smeg DWF 64 SSE dishwasher, which is approximately 3 years old and has had very light use in a household of 2.
About 9 months ago we encountered the E2 error code and, with the help of advise on the Whitegoods site, managed to rectify the problem using hot water, a hosepipe etc.
All was fine until the machine stopped working recently with the E2 error code showing again. Thinking that the machine has simply become blocked again, we repeated the hosepipe / hot water process and a little crud was removed. The E2 error lights went out and the dishwasher resumed its cycle (running empty). After a while it stopped again and the first and third indicator lights came on – this error code is not listed in the manual.
We have tried resetting the machine (4 presses of the start button with door open). Each time the machine starts and can be heard filling with water (quite noisily) for a few moments until a beep is heard and it stops reverts to the error code lights 1 and 3.
Any assistance or advice would be gratefully received, thank you.

Hi Prella,
From scouring the manuals it sounds like an E5 error message on the dishwasher which, according to the manual, means…
Smeg wrote:The machine it is not is in grade of load water
Obviously that one didn’t translate very well. 😉
Basically it means not filling with water. There are several possible causes including the fill valve, water tank, no water feed to the machine, internal blockage or even a duff controller.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply & assistance.
Indeed the machine was not filling with water & I had a hunch that the Aquastop safety system had been activated. I have just returned from a few days away &, low & behold, the dishwasher is now working! I thought it may be of assistance to post this message for others who fix the ‘E2’ error with a hosepipe: during this proceedure some water overflowed from the front of the machine.
Our theory is that the overflow of water, possibly into the machine base, had activated the Aquastop system as the dishwasher thought it was flooding the kitchen! Once left for a few days to dry out, the dishwasher is now working perfectly!
Excellent forum !
