Ariston CD12 Washer Dryer Door Gasket

Is it me?
I went to replace a door gasket today, I fitted a new door gasket but could not get it to stop rubbing on the inner drum, looking at the old gasket there was a groove worn out of it where that had been rubbing on the inner drum,
I tried refitting it a couple of times but could not get a gap bettween the inner drum and gasket the bearings were fine infact the machine is only a couple of years old customer wanted it changed because it had gone black inside and was marking her clothes any suggestions please.
