I have an electric Smeg SE398X oven thats only around 5 years old. Recently it’s started switching itself off whilst it’s on and cooking. When I say it switches off, it seems electrical – all lights go off, and it stops heating. At this point I have to wait for it to cool down, pull the oven out, unplug from the wall, wait ten seconds, put the plug back in and immediately the oven comes alive again. At first I thought it was possibly a fuse in the plug but then realised that just unplugging and then re-plugging the oven back in, it would come on again.
It seems totally random, one night this week it worked fine baking an apple crumble for about 45 mins at around 180. The next night it died 15 minutes in to cooking something else at the same temperature.
Any ideas? I’d rather not pay a repairman if it’s going to cost a few hundred pounds to fix as thats nearly half the price of a new oven. Has anyone else had a similar fault?
