ParticipantMy Washing machine – Hotpoint Aquarius WMA32, has been making lots of noise when spinning. I took the back plates off and noticed the drive belt had moved very much towards the front of the machine and was starting to ride up over the ‘lip’ on the edge of the drive wheel. I manoeuvred it round, by turning the drum by hand, and gently pushing the belt towards the centre of the wheel so that it sat more centrally in the space.
This cleared things up dramatically for about 1 wash – then the noise came back, and while my wife was using it the drive belt slipped off.
The belt doesn’t look especially worn. I’ve refitted it (which is quite a knack) – but I can’t seem to get it to sit right – it pushes towards the front of the washer to the extent that as the belt is taken up by the drum wheel on the left hand side (looking from the front), it seems to go straight on to the rim of the wheel – which i would imagine will mean that it will fly off again almost immediatley – if it doesn’t get sliced to ribbons. (not unlike my fingers – that wheel on the drum’s like a razor !)
The drive spindle at the ‘little’ end, appears to have scope for me to move the belt in or out on it – however the belt’s already on it’s outermost position – moving it the other way would only make this worse. Is there any way I can adjust the position ?
Or is this about needing a new drive belt ?
Or is this a bearing or drum problem – in which case is it worth repairing ?

Hi
If you hold top and bottom of drum pulley is there movement, because it sounds as if your bearings are shot which will make the drum tilt foreward so that the belt will allways move to front of pulley.
Power off for safety sake

No there seems to be hardly any play on this
Power off for safety sake
MikeI forgot to do this yesterday – very easy to forgot when it’s left switched on all the time

Hi
Replace with new belt and try, once they ride over the rim they are distorted.

This is the one you want, http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Washing+ … +Belt.html there is a knack to fitting it. You will find the new belt very tight indeed.

Already ordered it
Any tips on getting it on – I’m guessing little end first and work it round by hand

Lash it to the big pulley with a tyrap, then wind it round.

🙁
I got the belt, I put it on, it still pulls to the middle (ie. the front of the washer), and would surely come straight off if I powered it up
It feels as if the wheel/pulley at the motor end of the the belt could do to be a few millimetres further out towards the back of the washer – is this adjustable at all ?

No adjustment at all. I have never seen a belt that would not run in the centre of the drum pulley if it was positioned correctly on the motor pulley, assuming that the drum bearings are sound. Move the belt to towards the end of the motor pulley.

I finally gave up the ghost and ordered a new Bosch machine today
My guess is the bearings aren’t as sound as I thought they might
:rolls:Thanks for the help – this is a top notch web site
