    Any clues as to what causes the control dial to spin on this machine? I think it could be a heater fault, but any help would be most welcome.

    Plenty of ‘clues’, far to many in fact. 😥

    You need to watch the mains neon, when the control knob starts to go round, count the number of flashes between pauses and report back.

    Just keep your fingers crossed that it isn’t 8 flashes. :rolls:

    You could do a forum search for , “flashing Indesit/Ariston/Hotpoint” but you might lose the will to live if you try reading them all. 😉

    when was the last time u saw one of them and it WASNT the heater relay?

    I’ve got a wi101 that has done the same thing. Does anyone know where I can source a replacement relay from? I’m handy enough with a soldering iron to replace that and if it comes to buying a whole new control module then I’ll buy a new machine!

    There is no evidence in this thread that the heater or associated relays were a problem.

    When the dial starts to revolve, count the pattern of the power light flashing – ie 1-2-3-4-pause-repeat. This is the actually fault code, which should offer some guicance as to what is actually wrong.

    It flashes 8 times. It’s been doing it intermittantly for a few weeks but now it refuses to do anything but that. It’ll start filling with water then give up, start pumping the water back out and the dial spins giving the fault code of 8.

    I’ve already replaced the temperature sensor and I’ve checked all the wiring from the heater using a multimeter.

    The intermittant nature makes me suspect a sticking relay. Plus searching around on google also seems to suggest that the relay is unreliable.

    yup, f8 is a heater relay fault

    so its pcb AND eprom time

    id check prices first, not the cheapest of repairs, and id still recommend getting someone in

    Well I’m trying to source a replacement relay so far. I’m not willing to spend a lot of money on this machine as I don’t think it’s worth it. I’m not having any luck so far as the relay doesn’t really seem to have a manufacturer name on it and the part number on it doesn’t bring anything up.
