Following a house move, including a short time with my belongings in storage I’ve now got a problem with my Zanussi ZWD1680W washer-dryer. It is less than two years old.

It initially seems fine, but mid-program (often at the end of a section) it just stops and the whole display goes completely blank as if power is lost. It is however not a break in the power supply because if it recovers on its own then it returns to the beginning of the program in a paused state (where as if I simulate a loss of power by switching off and on again at the socket it always continues/restarts the program automatically).

Am I safe to assume that this problem would be solved by replacing the main PCB control board? Or is there some other mechanism (potentially at fault) that would result in the whole machine stopping and the display going blank? The problem does not seem to be related to any mechanical jolt or vibration (I have tried hitting and shaking the machine and poking all the electical joints with the lid off in order (unsuccessfully) to produce the failure on demand) and therefore does not seem to be a loose electrical contact.

It sometimes recovers on its own, sometimes in seconds, sometimes in minutes. Other times I have to switch the knob to off and wait a few minutes before the display comes to life again if switched to a program selection. Quite ramdom.

No error messages are ever displayed.

I took the main PCB out last night and sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner, but of course it made no difference. I am happy to purchase a new PCB (85 pounds!) and put it in, but need to be confident that that will solve it. I have also been told that some configuration codes need to be somehow entered onto a new PCB and that these are not readily available to common folk like me.

    Please help.

    Cheers,
    Saul.

    Hi Saul,

When you say mid cycle what do you mean. Can you check if this occurs when the mahcine does a spin or drains the water out or goes to the rinse.

It may well be the case that some components cause it to swith off.

It is hard to say without checking it out.

    Regards

Re: Zanussi washer-dryer turns off mid-program

It seems to potentially do it whatever program is selected.
I initially put a load on a full wash/dry cycle and when I returned to the machine after a few minutes it was sat waiting again at the beginning of the wash cycle (with the full prog time displayed and the start light flashing and a drum full of wet, dirty clothes).
Since then I have attempted some shorter programs in order to investigate (e.g. drain, spin, dry etc) and it seems to make no difference at all what the machine is actually trying to do. Sometimes just a few seconds or minutes into the prog it stops and everything goes blank. Sometimes it takes a little longer. A common occurance (particularly with the shorter progs) is that it counts down the time remaining to 1 and then just when I expect it to go to zero (prog end) it stops and everything goes blank.
Out of about 10 or 15 attempts it has only successfully made it to the end of a program (time flashing 0 and ‘end’ light on) once.

Once it has gone blank it sometimes recovers after a few seconds/minutes, with the display returning back to the start of the selected prog, or it sometimes requires the knob turning back to off and waiting a long while before there is any life on selecting a prog. The door seems to remain locked until “recovery”.

Is there some sort of emergency cut-out mechanism in existence that causes a total shut-down (as described) that may be at fault in my machine, or has it simply lost its mind (PCB fault)?

    Many thanks for replying.

    Cheers,
    Saul.

The part I need is the Electronics Module #1321571711 but I am told that this part comes “unconfigured” and requires the entry of some codes in order to configure it for the ZWD1680W.

Please can anybody tell me a way that I can get a board configured correctly. It’s seems stupid to pay for an engineer to come to my house in order to configure and replace the PCB when if I could just obtain a pre-configured unit I could easily install it myself (having already had the old board out to check for loose connections and dry solder).

    Please can somebody advise me?

    Many thanks in advance.

Please use the one thread for one problem, it saves a LOT of confusion.
