ParticipantHi,
I have a Zanussi WDJ1294 Washer drier. It’s done pretty well, it must be 9 years old. Recently it’s destroyed a couple of items. They come out all covered in rubber granules, and rubbed through, ie with holes, which I think has been caused by the door gasket.
Is this a normal problem thats worth fixing on a machine of this age, or should I be planning to replace it.
If it is the door gasket, is that somthing that I am likely to be able to replace myself, I’m reasonably technically competent, but not a washing machine engineer.
Would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks, Paul

I am afraid changing gaskets on the Zanussi Washer dryer or even the washers is not easy. You normally have to take the whole drum out to put the gasket in.
If it is just the gasket you having problems with then the gasket is not expensive. Engineers may charge £45-£65 in labour. so in total it may be around £80 to £90.
If you want to order the part then have a look in spares section or email Dave you can get the part. For the engineer look in the repairs section to find.

ParticipantIs it likely that it is just the gasket causing my issues? I asume it’s hard to tell, but is it usual for these to fail and crumble?

Well nine years is not bad for a machine.
If you rubb the finger on the gasket does it make granules or does it come off?January 24, 2007 at 6:21 pm #202170pto

RegardsTake the tub/drum out! Where did that come from?
Takes less than 10 mins to fit a standard door seal with all in situ from the front. I admit with the w/dryer there is an art to it, but should be done in under an hour including cup of tea, paperwork & safety tests etc.
