ParticipantHave one of these about 5 years old slight rumble on bearings. My question is is it worth spliting tub and changing bearings? or is as easy to fit a new rear tub half. Also do you get away with reusing tub seal or will that be required.
Thanks in advance

Others will have a different ways but I always use the ‘Blue Peter’ method. That is to say “Heres one I prepared earlier”. I always have a couple of complete drum assemblies at home. I find it easier to change the complete drum in an hour or less than try and do a bearing or rear half repair in the customers home. You will rarely if ever get the bearings out without a major struggle, something you don’t want to be doing on someones kitchen floor. Until you open it up you don’t know if you will need a drum support as well.
You should always change the drum seal, its not expensive and removing the whole thing again if it leaks would be a pain, I also always fit new plastic suspension pegs. I have had several instances of refitting the old ones only to have them come adrift later.
I strip and rebuild the displaced drum in my garage, much better than making a mess in the customers kitchen.
Jim.
EDIT. I would guess that in the past four years I have replaced the drum support on less than 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the drum/bearing repairs I have done. To date I have not had a single call back to bearing failure since the rubena seal was introduced. That would be around 50 at the very least.

have done alot of wma bearing i always change the spider but you will have to drill the holding bolts casehardend from the inner drum yes you can reuse the tub seal easier with new half tub plus you will have to take old heater out & refit it OR change bearings in original tub all comes down to cost

I always change the bearings but have work shop facilities and take machine there i also have access to a bearing press which makes life a lot easier i also have a few spare drumms pre assembled so i just change over in workshop then rebuild worn unit when i get quite 10 mins. And yes i always use new tub seal never had a leak yet.

Thanks a lot for the advice.
Going to fit rear half tub and seal as not to expensive.
As its my own washer and just started with faint rumble shaft should be ok.
Thanks again

easy way to remove spider is to use an angle grinder and cut through the spider and fixing bolts CAREFULLY as close as possible to the drum then you should be left with only a couple of turns of thread to turn to release the bolts.

I find it a lot easier to drill out the rivets.

If they arent to rusty give them a couple of good wacks with a drift and 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time you can remove with a torx bit on an extension bar.

I have used Bosch titanium drill from B&Q. Up to now the same bit has done at least four drum supports, I bought another bit just in case but have not needed to use it yet.
