Indesit we16s door open fault

hi

my indesit we16s has developed a fault, in that it is stating the door is open, but it is in fact closed and locked – mid cycle

to be more specific, when a program is selected, the duration of this cycle is displayed and then flashes.
the washing machine fails to start the wash but the timer begins to count down.
then after a non specific period, the “door open” is displayed on the lcd.

any ideas ?

have tried powering down the washer and this seemed to fix it but only temporarily, it seemed to finish a cycle but not complete it 😕
