ParticipantHi all,
I’ve had a good rummage around the site – glad I found it! Plenty of useful info & tips here!I am posting to ask your opinions on the purchase of a Washer/Dryer. My Zanussi washing machine (9yrs) and Dryer (4 yrs) have gone kaput and I want to save space & get a combined unit. I realise most models require the user to remove half the wash load for drying – and I can live with that!
The received wisdom is to stay away from washer/dryers and get 2 machines instead. Is this still the case in your experience? I have had a look at whats available (I live in Ireland) and the front runners so far are the WD440 (Hotpoint Aquarius) and the AWZ 410 (Whirlpool). The Hotpoint has the advantage of (it says here!) being able to take a 5Kg load, and also dry the same 5Kg load. Although, after reading some of the horror stories here, I am now wary of Hotpoint!
There is a Miele model (don’t have the number I’m afraid), but it is 3 times the price of the Hotpoint or Whirlpool! If it was double the price I would prbably stretch to it, but the price seems steep, even for Miele (I can recommend their dishwashers though! 🙂 ).
So, has anyone here a happy story (or a warning!) to share about Washer/Dryers?

advice?
look at the hotpoint, turn 180 degrees, and run as fast as u can, let nothing stand in your way.. they really are THAT bad
zanussi washer/dryrs tend to be reliable, but ultimately, if u can have seperates, do so, and buy nothing frm merloni (indesit/hotpont/creda)
just look around the forums, ull see what people have to say about unreliable electronics n the merloni machines, naff dryer boxes, etc
seperates is the best way
and in that case, bosch/siemens/miele arer the best
hope this helps

Thanks helo_75! Yes, I have seen the comments elsewhere on the site regarding Hotpoint! It sends a chill down my spine!
I suppose I will bite the financial bullet and go for a Zanussi (or even bosch/siemens/miele if I can find one not too outrageously priced!) washer/dryer…
Are combined machines still that bad though, that they give much more trouble than separates?
